  • Allow lotion etc to dry before putting on rings etc...
  • Take off rings before washing hands with soaps or harsh chemicals
  • Wipe rings (and jewellery) using a cotton ball or soft cloth (preferably a cotton ball) as often as possible, especially if you or hands are sweaty.
  • Store jewellery when not in use, store in a pvc jewellery bag or anti tarnish bag, or air tight jewellery box with an anti tarnish strip.

First Off, Last On!! & Proper Storage is the holy grail, the magical chant of

Jewellery After Care particularly for plated jewellery.

STEP 1:

View the video below to learn tips from a professional Costume Jeweller.

The tips in this video are fully supported by Minx London and is how we recommend our customers to take care of their Minx London Jewellery.

FOR MOST OF YOU, THE ADVICE IN THE ABOVE VIDEO IS ALL YOU NEED TO DO! HOWEVER WE RECOMMEND USING A COTTON BALL INSTEAD OF A CLOTH, AND PVC JEWELLERY BAG RATHER THAN REGULAR PLASTIC BAG.

STEP 2:

Best Metal Coatings and Sealants for your Plated Jewellery
Creating a barrier between your jewellery and everything external such as your skin, the air, atmosphere, sweat etc... is a great way to prevent future tarnish as well as metal allergies and even humid locations such as near the ocean, and also will prevent people who have issues whereby jewellery oxidation causes their skin to go green.

Side Note: MINX LONDON SELLS HIGH QUALITY PLATED & SOLID JEWELLERY, THEREFORE YOU ONLY NEED TO TAKE ADVICE FROM THE ABOVE VIDEO. HOWEVER THOSE OF YOU IN HUMID REGIONS, OR THOSE WHO HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN IT IS WORTH CONSIDERING THE ADVICE FROM THE STEP 2 VIDEOS.

Costume Jewellery Protective Coating Products. We do NOT advise step 2, as it is not needed for our jewellery, however for some people this may work wonders, especially if you don't wan't to clean your jewellery after every use.

WHAT IS RENAISSANCE WAX?

Renaissance wax is an invisible wax that protects metals from oxidisation. It was first developed in the 1950s in the British Museum research laboratories, specifically for the conservation and protection of exhibits. It is now the most popular conservation wax polish and used in museums, galleries and stately homes to this day.

WHY IS RENAISSANCE WAX GOOD FOR HANDMADE JEWELLERY?

Renaissance wax is a great product to have at your jewellery bench as metals will tarnish over time due to the exposure to oxygen. Applying renaissance wax to copper, silver and other metals will prevent the pieces from tarnishing.

STEP 3: Jewellery Storage | How to Store My Plated Jewellery?

Anti tarnish strips can be used to absorb tarnish producing gases.
As you will have learned in the 1st video, anti tarnish strips and bags are very good at protecting your loved jewellery from oxidation and is proven to help prevent tarnish.

anti tarnish strips

Below is an image of PVC Bags that can be used to store your jewellery when not in use. Simply pop jewellery in bag, squeeze air out and seal bag. Both PVC bags and anti tarnish strips can be purchased for under a dollar on sites like amazon. Where possible we do our best to add these to your jewellery package.

Anti tarnish bags can be used to keep jewellery air tight as possible to avoid harmful airborne particles that cause oxidation.

STEP 4:  HOW TO CARE (OR NOT CARE) FOR YOUR PLATED JEWELRY?

Understanding how to love and cherish your jewelry...

STEP 6: Trial & Error, Find your own way to care for your jewellery. Create your own jewellery after care rituals like the jewellery lovers in the videos below...
MINX LONDON ONCE AGAIN DO NOT ADVISE THE PRACTISES IN THE VIDEOS BELOW, HOWEVER SOME OF YOU MAY FIND IT USEFUL, ESPECIALLY THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T WISH TO CLEAN YOUR JEWELLERY AFTER EACH USE. PLEASE NOTE THAT CHEMICALS CAN EFFECT PLATED JEWELLERY AND CLOUD DIAMONDS / STONES SO BE SURE TO TAPE OR COVER STONES BEFORE DOING THE BELOW CLEANING PRACTISES.

WIKI HOW has a great blog on preventing green marking from jewellery, this is caused by oxidation and many people use clear nail varnish coating on inner ring to create a bond. If you do decide to do this be sure to use high quality clear nail polish, rather than just any odd cheap clear nail polish.

MINX LONDON RINGS DO NOT TURN YOUR FINGERS GREEN,
NEITHER WILL OTHER BRANDED JEWELLERY IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR JEWELLERY LIKE ADVISED IN THE STEP 1 VIDEO. HOWEVER THOSE OF YOU IN VERY HIGHLY HUMID REGIONS OR HAVE VERY SWEATY HANDS ALL THE TIME THIS TIP MAYBE USEFUL.
